Editorial policy

This site tells people what their salary will be. That is worth setting some rules about.

A note on "we": this site is run by one person, Divya Akash Dutta. There is no editorial team, no review board and no staff. Where this page says "we", it means him and the sources listed on the sources page.

How figures are researched

Financial rules are checked against the authority that issues them, the Income Tax Department and the underlying legislation for tax, EPFO for provident fund, the Ministry of Labour & Employment for gratuity and the wage code, and state governments for professional tax.

Figures are never copied from competing calculators. If another site and a government source disagree, the government source wins; if we cannot resolve it, we document the conflict and leave the calculation out.

How the tools are checked

The calculation engine has an automated test suite covering slab boundaries, the section 87A rebate and its marginal relief taper, surcharge thresholds and their relief, cess, provident fund ceilings, state professional tax caps, and arithmetic invariants. Selected results are checked against published reference figures.

Tools are tested separately from the prose around them. A well-written page with a wrong number is worse than no page.

How pages are reviewed

Content is reviewed when something material changes, a Finance Act, a Budget, an EPFO notification, a state amendment, and at least once a year before a new tax year begins.

Review dates on this site reflect actual reviews. We do not bump a date to look fresh. A page that has not needed changing keeps its old date, which is information rather than neglect.

What we will not do

  • Invent or imply credentials. Divya Akash Dutta is not a Chartered Accountant, tax professional or financial adviser, and the site says so.
  • Add a "reviewed by" box unless a real, named reviewer has actually reviewed the page.
  • Publish statistics, average salaries, typical structures, what most employers do, without a source that supports them. Where the calculator needs a default, it is labelled a calculator assumption.
  • Claim usage numbers, ratings, awards or testimonials. This site is new, and it should look new rather than falsely established.
  • Copy wording, tables or data from competing sites.
  • Tell you which tax regime to choose. We will show you both and let you decide.

Advertising and sponsorship

There is currently no advertising, sponsorship or affiliate arrangement on this site. If any is introduced, it will be disclosed, and it will not influence a calculation or a conclusion. See the advertising disclosure.

Corrections

Errors get fixed. Material ones get a visible note. The corrections policy sets out how.
