About the author
In-Hand Calculator is built and published by one person. This page says who, and what that is worth.
Divya Akash Dutta
He is a Bachelor of Commerce graduate. His understanding of salary computation and accounting comes from that degree, from research he has done on his own since, and from working in accounting roles: several internships and part-time engagements across both formal businesses and smaller informal ones.
That last part is more useful for this subject than it sounds. Payroll in India is not one practice, it is many. A large company with a payroll system applies the provident fund ceiling one way; a small business doing its own books applies it another, or not at all. Seeing both is what makes it obvious that a calculator which assumes a single structure is going to be wrong for a lot of people, and it is why this site treats every assumption as something you can change rather than something it decides for you.
What he is responsible for here
- Researching the tax, provident fund, gratuity and professional tax rules the calculators apply.
- The calculation engine and its test suite.
- The explanatory content.
- Reviewing the figures when the rules change, and publishing corrections when something is wrong.
What he is not
Stated plainly, because sites in this category routinely imply otherwise. He is not a Chartered Accountant, a tax professional, a financial adviser or a lawyer, and nothing here should be read as advice from one.
What this site offers instead is transparency. Every rule is sourced, every assumption is on screen, and the arithmetic is open to inspection. Where a question needs professional judgement rather than arithmetic, it needs a professional.
